Structure of the pelvic and penile urethra – relationship with the ducts of the sex accessory glands of the Mongolian gerbil

چکیده
The urethra is the main place of entry for sexually transmitted pathogens. However, there is little literature on the morphology of the urogenital system, principally the urethra and ducts of the sex accessory glands. The Mongolian gerbil is an insectivorous, herbivorous and monogamous rodent with nocturnal habits; it has been used successfully as a laboratory animal since the 1960s. Therefore, the objective of the present paper was to describe the structure and ultrastructure of the urethra and its relations to the ducts of the accessory sex glands of the Mongolian gerbil ( Meriones unguiculatus ), contributing to the understanding of the reproductive biology of the rodent and aiming to provide data for future experimental studies. Conventional techniques of light and scanning electron microscopy were utilized. The urethra and ducts of the accessory sex glands are similar to those of the albino rat and the mouse. However, there is variation in drainage type among accessory sex glands for the inner urethra. The ducts of the seminal vesicle, the ductus deferens, drain their contents independently into the ampullary duct that opens in the urethra. The ducts of the prostate, coagulating and bulbourethral glands drain their contents independently into

Tolnidamine-Induced Changes in the Testis, Sperm Count, Fertility and Accessory Sex Glands of the Laboratory Mouse
Background Tolnidamine-induced changes have been reported earlier on spermatogenesis, fertility and sperm count in rat, rabbit and langur monkey. The aim of this study is to assess the response of these aspects to tolnidamine in the laboratory mouse. MaterialsAndMethods Adult male mice (12-14 weeks old) of Parkes (P) strain were used in the present study. All the animals were divided into five ...

متن کاملO-14: Effect of Kisspeptin on Testicular Tissue and Accessory Sex Glands, Seminal Vesicle and Prostate, in Prepubertal Rats
Background: Hypothalamus-derived kisspeptins are critical regulators of reproduction in nearly all mammalian species including the humans. These small peptides mediate their actions through the GnRH loop system. How kisspeptins regulate gonadal maturation in sexually immature male mammals remains elusive. To address this, kisspeptin was administered as subchronic (12 days) twice daily i. p. dos...

The current study investigated histological development and histochemistry of digestive accessory glands of Vimba bream Vimba vimba from hatching through 60th day after hatching (DAH). The samples were randomly taken from day 1 (hatching) until the full absorption of the yolk sac at day 7 and the day after that, then with 2, 5, and 10 days intervals until 60 DAH. The development of the digestiv...
متن کاملA Distal Urethral Cyst in a Female Newborn (A Rare Case)
Skene's glands are the largest external secretory glands in the distal part of the urethra. Although cystic changes caused by abnormal accumulation of significant amounts of secretions are rare, they can be seen even at birth. The presented case was a female full-term newborn with vaginal delivery. This was the second pregnancy of her mother after another living child. The mother was 26 years o...
